نَعيبُ زَمانَنا وَالعَيبُ فينا وَما لِزَمانِنا عَيبٌ سِوانا
وَنَهجو ذا الزَمانِ بِغَيرِ ذَنبٍ وَلَو نَطَقَ الزَمانُ لَنا هَجانا
فدنيانا التصنع والترائي ونحن به نخادع من يرانا
وَلَيسَ الذِئبُ يَأكُلُ لَحمَ ذِئبٍ وَيَأكُلُ بَعضُنا بَعضاً عَيانا
لبسنا للخداع مسوح ضأن فويل للمغير إذا أتانا

We fault our time while the fault lies within us,
And our time has no fault except for us.
We mock our time without the right;
And had time spoken, it would have mocked us for our plight.
We reduce our lives to mere deceit and pretence,
So we beguile all those who gaze at us.
Wolves seldom eat one another in fight,
Yet we humans feast on each other in plain sight.
We have cloaked our true selves, pretending with cheer;
So woe to the aggressor who dares to draw near!
